Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) today announced that it has sold a domain for more than $1 million, offering free shipping on orders to customers who purchase it through its website.
The domain, which was registered in December 2018, has sold for more of the $3.3 million in the initial listing price.
The domain, located at g.amazon.ca, was sold by Digital Domain Services, a Canadian company that specializes in buying and selling domain names, according to a release from the company.
The company plans to use the money to continue expanding its online catalog and expanding its e-commerce offerings, according the release.
The online catalog of Amazon.cc has sold nearly 300,000 domain names through its platform since its inception in 2004.
Amazon has also sold its ecommerce platform through AmazonFresh, its marketplace for selling merchandise.
Digital Domain Services has also previously bought a number of domain names from companies, including Amazon, the National Hockey League’s Edmonton Oilers, and Amazon Web Services.
The company has sold domain names for less than $5,000, but this one is unique in that it was purchased for $3 million, according its website, which also offers a number other details on the domain sale.
Digital domain services also has a growing collection of other popular domains.
For example, it bought the domain for about $1,500 in October.
The buyer will be paid a $500 annual fee for the domain.
The sale was announced today by Amazon in a press release, which said it will use the funds to continue to grow its eCommerce and AmazonFresh offerings.
Digital Domains also has sold other popular domain names.
For instance, it sold its domain name for about 50 cents in September 2018, according Digital Domain’s website.
Digital domains, like Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, and others, are widely used online.
In 2018, the average domain price was $3,000 and was up from around $1 in 2019.
DigitalDomains offers a variety of services to buyers and sellers.
For one, it offers free international shipping to customers when they buy through its AmazonFresh marketplace.
In addition, it also offers free returns, which allows users to return items to Amazon for a refund.
In February 2019, the company also said that it plans to introduce a free global delivery service in 2018.
