The Times Of India on Monday reported that some of the top domains in India have fallen by at least 50 per cent.
The domain name registrations are not the only reason why domains are being dropped.
According to the report, domain availability and cheap domain registration are also among the reasons.
The Times of Indians claimed that the number of top domains for a particular company or brand is down by 20 per cent in the past 12 months.
It added that, since February 2017, only 10% of the names registered for a company are still used by the company.
Some of the domains that have fallen in value include.com,dynamic,google,yahoo,yahoo-in-us,yahoo.com andzendesk.com.
In a tweet on Monday, Google India tweeted that it was working on an update that would remove a number of low-value domain names that are being used by companies, but said it was too early to share details.
In an email response, Yahoo said that it has “zero intention of changing any of the domain names” for which it is losing users.
“We are actively working on ways to improve the quality of our DNS, to help our customers and partners stay competitive.
We have also provided more detailed information about the reasons why domain names are being removed from our DNS,” Yahoo said in an email reply to queries sent by email.
